Wow Sonia! Sorry to hear about ur bod going on strike. :-( You better show that body who it worx for! Lol! But your post brings up a good point:

It's important we take care of our bodies while we train. I don't know about you all, but I ain't no spring chicken! I went to a chiropractor last week and got a much needed adjustment, and he even stretched me out. The next day I went running and found my workout was much easier! I was able to push two miles easily--and that was after kickboxing! My chiropractor told me not only was my spine compressed, but a few of my rib-heads (where the rib bones meet the spine) were out of place. This is what was causing the decrease in my lung capacity. I have to go for a few more sessions, and afterwards I should be in tip-top shape. He only charges $25 per session; so if anyone is interested, let me know and I'll pass on his contact info. He's in Smyrna.

I'm also going to start back going to Hot Yoga to increase my flexibility. I used to be able to do Yoga once or twice a week and maintain my flexibility. Not anymore. Man, this getting old thing sux! But I told myself, this is my first time training for a marathon event. Now that I've embarked on this I want to be that 65 year old person still doing marathons or triatholons and have them do a story about me--LOL!

Happy training ladies! Take care of your body--do something special for it like treat it to the spa! :-)

53 days...Really?!!

Ok, ladies. It has taken me about 30 minutes to figure out how to post on this website. I am NOT ashamed, although I probably should be. But since I still purchase a calendar with fun facts in the back every year from Target when school starts, this is par for the course. :)

I am so happy that everyone is getting out there and making a real effort with this. 13. 1 miles is no joke! But, we can do this! :) And as a person who took the bar so many times that the proctors and lunch ladies started to high five me when I walked through the door, giving up is NOT an option! :)

Now, that I have gotten the pep talk out of the way, let me be honest. My 6 mile run yesterday made me call on the 10lb sweet baby Jesus! lol I was like, "Now, is there a small child on my back?, Are my thighs growing so that I have my own little rain forest going on?, Is there a small panda bear sitting on my chest?" Geesh! The first 3 miles were cool but then I looked down and realized that I was running a 12 minute mile! What the hell?!! And ,you ladies that are able to run out in the cold are hardcore! Rock on with that! I certainly don't have the lung capacity for the thin air and I pray that March is humid like I am used to! :)

I know we are committed to pushing through our pain and our injuries to receive our medals, t-shirts and of course, the coveted 13.1 sticker that will go directly above my Obama/Biden sticker! Only "runners" even get it so get ready to make some new friends at the intersections and grocery store parking lots! :) And really, how hot are you to even be able to say you were able to do that? VERY HOT!! Work it ladies!!

Ciao!!

Week 3...

Hi Ladies!
We've come to the end of week 3 and I have to say I am extremely proud of us! I was on a roll last week and had gotten up to 3.8 miles, but this week I was sidelined with an injury... :(

I've been cross-training with tennis workouts since I'm in the middle of a season with my team (God, PLEASE don't let us make the playoffs!!!!) and I think I pulled or strained (or just generally pissed off) a muscle. So, needless to say I've been resting the injury this week. I got a short 2.5 miles run in on Wednesday and I have a match tomorrow, but that's been about it for this week. I am getting back on it on Tuesday (I'm going to need a couple days to recover after my match tomorrow)come hell or high water!! IT'S ON!!!

***And now, for your reading pleasure, I present...a conversation between me and my body earlier this week:

SONIA: OK y'all, we are going to get 4 miles in today! We are strong, we are motivated and WE CAN DO THIS!!!
MUSCLES (to JOINTS): Wait...what did she say?!
JOINTS (to MUSCLES): I don't know why you listen to her...we Joints just do what we want anyway!
MUSCLES: Wait...is she starting?! OK...we need to present a united front! EVERYBODY PROTEST!!!!!
JOINTS: OK...THAT AIN'T WORKING!!!! She's still running! What the hell is her problem?!
MUSCLES: I'll tell you what her problem is...SHE IS STRAIGHT TRIPPIN'!!! Ok, we're going to have to pull out the big dogs....Ass, you're officially on strike. Pack it up and go home!
SONIA: AAAAAAAAAAH!! SONUVAMUTHA#@$%^&!!! What the hell was THAT?! (Simultaneously pushing the biggest red "STOP" button I can find on the treadmill and sighing) ...I'm too old for this sh*t!!

ROCK ON, LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday worked out at the gym with kickboxing. The cardio sucked but the ab session at the end was the bomb! Then went outside for a run. Man! I really need to do some work to increase my lung capacity! I had to run-walk two miles and that was all I had in me! This week, I'm going to add some pool workouts into my routine, increase my cardio, and decrease strength training (so I'll have less muscle bulk to lug around the track :-) My goal is to get to at least two miles straight thru by the end of the week.

Shay--I like your idea--and I'm down for either one. Perhaps we should do them all. Meet at the Chattohootchee River Walk, the Silver Comet Trail, and the subdivisions most conducive to running/walking (I like your subdivision bc it's hilly--that's prob most similar to how the actual walk will be--and will give us some MAJOR toning to our buns and thighs! ;-)

Happy training ladies!

My Training to Date

I have had every intention of getting up in the morning and doing Pilates or an in door walk, but haven't been able to roll out of bed. Then I've made all kinds of excuses in the evening (classic I'm too tired and my husband expects me to fix dinner...) Well let me just say, I woke up this morning with exercise and walking on my mind. I got out of bed, put on some workout clothes, old tennis, and went downstairs to do an exercise DVD. I am very happy to say that I completed a 3 mile walk. HURRAY!!!!! : - ) What a way to get started. I feel so good already and I'm highly motivated. Maybe one day, when it isn't too cold outside, some of us can go walk at the Chattahochee River (3.1 miles around) or walk (run for those who are running) at Silver Comet trail, or even rotate neighborhoods. What do you all think? Well, I guess I better buy shoes for the run/walk now, so I can break them in. Hope everyone stays motivated. I like to remember that slow and steay wins the race! - Shay

Ran a mile and a half outside yesterday. Tried to push it to two miles--but man that cold almost bit my ear off! I tend to be hot-natured, so I fig if I went out there in sweats then I'd be warm enough. Note to self--you need gloves, earmuffs, a skully, and layers to run outside now!

I am pumped! We should take some "before" and "after" shots of ourselves as we go thru our training.

Happy training ladies!
